The anti-worker Freedom Foundation has invited flagrant homophobe Mike Huckabee to be the keynote speaker at their Oregon banquet in November at the Salem Convention Center in Salem, Oregon.
The Salem Convention Center should not be giving Huckabee’s brand of bigotry a platform.
Huckabee stands at the forefront of the anti-LGBTQ movement: he’s called for legislation to allow for discrimination against LGBTQ people, signed a pledge that described same-sex parents as “unconscionable and destructive” and a “threat to security,” likened the legalization of same-sex marriage to the legalization of drugs, incest, and polygamy, and recently described LGBTQ equality as “the biggest threat” to America’s “moral fiber.”
Coupled with his long record of climate change denial, sexist and racist comments, and ties to a prominent white supremacist group, it’s unconscionable that the Salem Convention Center would give someone like Mike Huckabee a platform in our community.
The Freedom Foundation is an extremist organization that works to elect extremist politicians that push a far-right agenda. Though headquartered in Olympia, WA, they are funded by out-of-state billionaires who want to keep wages low, eliminate paid sick leave, and slash crucial funding for quality education. The Freedom Foundation’s decision to celebrate and raise money off of Huckabee’s bigotry reveals the extremism at their core.
Please fill out the form above to send an email to the Salem Convention Center’s General Manager Chrissie Bertsch and tell them that anti-LGBTQ bigotry has no home in Oregon.
